As a passionate island enthusiast, I visited a six-star island in the Maldives eight years ago and explored numerous islands in Central America, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. However, I believe that the Bahamas, in terms of water quality, recreational enjoyment, and overall experience, is top-notch. Moreover, the prices are half of what you’d find in the Maldives. Highly recommended!
The highlight of the entire trip was the day tour to Staniel Cay Exuma. We departed from the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, on a same-day round-trip flight. The journey, which took 30 minutes each way on a small plane, offered breathtaking views as we flew at a low altitude over the sea, passing by islands of various sizes, coral reefs, and the pure expanse of sea and sky. The scenery along the way made the journey well worth it.
Upon arrival, a captain welcomed us, and after a 15-minute process, we were set to go. We opted for a private speedboat, which could accommodate about six people and came equipped with towels, snorkeling gear, sunscreen, drinks, and snacks. The captain played music as the speedboat sailed through the waves, creating an unparalleled sense of openness.
The most enjoyable parts of the entire itinerary were the up-close encounters with sharks at Shark Island, swimming with sharks, snorkeling at the Sea Aquarium, and having lunch at the Sand Bar (basking in the sun on the shallow shore, with fine sand and gentle seawater – the water quality and beach at Pig Island were also exceptional).
Around four o’clock, we concluded all the activities, feeling thoroughly satisfied. The captain took us back to the pier, and after payment, we could walk to the airport to catch our flight. Since it was a small plane, arriving 10 minutes early was sufficient.
Important notes: It’s advisable to bring waterproof sunscreen, reapply every two hours or after getting in the water, and have swimwear, goggles, and slippers. Wearing a hat is not recommended due to strong winds.
